OUR HISTORY Palos

Christ Community Church is part of the Reformed Church of America and originated as the Reformed Church of Palos Heights (RCPH). The first service was held on Feb. 21, 1960 at the clubhouse of Trinity Christian College with 104 people. The Reformed Church of Palos Heights was officially organized on July 21, 1960 with 24 charter families and newly graduated seminary student, Vernon Vander Werff, as their pastor. The original facility at 6600 W. 127th street (only a small part of what you see today) was dedicated on Dec. 6, 1962.

In 1965, Rev. Marvin Hoff came from New Jersey to pastor RCPH. Many programs were implemented that focused on reaching the growing community. People in the congregation were encouraged to step forward and be a part of the leadership and to participate in all areas of the church from leading education to worship. Rev. Bruce Laverman arrived in 1969 to continue this model throughout his ministry.

In 1973, Hope Reformed Church in Chicago merged with RCPH and the building continued to expand through the 80's to provide the needed space to the growing and merging congregation. When Rev. Laverman accepted a call to a pastorate in Omaha, NE, Rev. Hoff was once again called upon to lead RCPH for the next 3 years until 1984 when Rev. Donald Jansma was installed as the pastor.

In 1990 the Rev. Peter Semeyn was called to be the lead pastor of RCPH after Rev. Jansma accepted a call to a Kalamazoo church. Basketball teams, music classes, hand bell choir, vocal choir, women's workshops, men's breakfasts, small groups, volleyball, singles and a variety of other activities were available to all ages.

RCPH, busting at the seams in the late 90's, purchased 13 acres in the nearby suburb of Lemont. In 2000 RCPH decided to change their name to Christ Community Church in anticipation of the move. In the fall of 2003, CCC called Rev. Paul "Bud" Pratt to be their lead pastor in this exciting journey. This excitement increased as Green Oak Reformed Church in Oak Lawn merged with Christ Community in late 2003 with the knowledge and excitement of the move to a new community in a few years. The facility in Palos Heights was sold in 2005 to Life Church of Chicagoland.

The people of Christ Community Church are looking forward to serving the new community in the Homer Glen and Lemont area in early 2007. It has been an extraordinary journey and all done in God's timing
