SCHMELLOOOO! I hope everyone at home is enjoying the cooler weather up north because we’re frying down here in Texas! I know everyone is anxious to hear from us so allow me to recap all the recent events for y’all.

The past two days, we have woken up to an annoying voice saying “WAKEY, WAKEY WORK CAMPERS!” followed by the most obnoxious ten minute songs I have ever heard about missing hairbrushes and roly-poly fish heads. Everyone always tries to roll out of their luxurious air mattresses as quickly as they can in hopes that the sooner they get up, the sooner the terrible music will stop... only to be disappointed. After our dreadful wake up calls, we have eaten breakfast with the other groups at camp and then gone to morning program to sing and to prepare ourselves for the day ahead of us before going our separate ways to our worksites.

Everyone has been hard at work during the day. For the sake of time, I have made a handy little list for you all to see what everyone in our group has been working on with their crews the past few days:
-Tom, Ali, Brian- painting trim, built handrail for stairs, painted porch; They have been to multiple sites due to their efficient work.
-Sarah, Melanie, Josh- mudding taping sanding dry wall, painting, cleaning
debris; They have been riding (and crashing) tractors around the worksite.
-Sue, Curtis, Danny- painting rooms, trim, &touching up, experimenting with
glitter, cleaning up after themselves; During their ride back to camp, they enjoy
playing a new game called “Who can find the biggest road kill?”
-Sarah Piatt, Kevin- mudding & taping drywall
-Bruce, Joelle, Steven, Mike, Adam Potter, Justin, Kristen- insulating and
putting up drywall; During breaks, our group enjoys dancing with Kyndall, the
resident’s five year old daughter who enjoys moon walking.

Typically, after work we enjoy a lot of free time, and an evening program where we sing worship songs and look at ways that God reveals Himself to His people everyday. Afterwards, we branch off and have our own youth group devotions and then get ready for bed. Every night, the staff comes in and reads us a bed time story (Sue’s favorite part of the day… NOT!) Although the girls have managed to get through a whole book every night, the boys are still anticipating the thrilling ending of their FIRST book, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, by Dr. Suess.

Fortunately for Sue, we were still able to have our story time last night but instead of spending our free time around camp, we went out! Tom organized an awesome 4 mile canoeing adventure. We spent the evening rowing down the river, trying to tip everyone else’s canoe. Adam Potter thought we were in Venice and decided it would be a good idea to stand in the front of his canoe… he hit the water several times. Joelle enjoyed her swim with the alligators and my boat with Sarah Piatt and Melanie managed to fly under the radar and eventually attach ourselves to the back of the Flavin Brothers Towing Service. Before coming back to camp, we stopped at Willy Ray’s for dinner where the boys enjoyed an “all you can eat” buffet of every type of meat you could imagine.

Tomorrow is our last day of work and we are anxious to get as far as we can on our projects before we have to leave. Thanks for reading, keep the prayers and the e-mails coming our way!
