First of all, I'm going to apologize up front for the tardiness of our first post, and the brevity of this and all future posts. Our tech capabilities are somewhat limited, so you'll just have to wait until our return to hear all of the stories. But that said, here we go!

An uneventful 11 hour drive on Saturday got us to Canton, MS, which is the home of a Nissan plant, zero open restaurants, and the nation's loneliest town square (unless you count the Mo' Money Taxes office). Fearing the townsfolk would chase us with torches and pitchforks, we left bright and early Sunday in order to complete the long drive to our final destination: Port Arthur, TX. The weather isn’t too bad here, if you like heat indexes of 110F. But don’t worry about us, evenings cool down to around 98F, or some other ridiculous number. Still, we’re in good spirits, and the kids are making the adjustments like champions. Its Doug and Tom that refuse to stop sweating.

Port Arthur and the surrounding regions were devastated by Hurricane Ike in 2008, and the road to recovery is ongoing. We’re excited and grateful to be able to join a few other groups this week at Group Workcamps in order to serve community members in need. The workday began early this morning, and our group was split and sent to several locations, some up to 65 miles away. Painting, deck repair and other carpentry, debris removal, and more painting seem to be the common operations, but the jobs are ever changing as they are completed and our groups are assigned new tasks. In the evenings we head to a group worship, followed immediately by our own devotions. Needless to say, we’ve been super busy!

Thanks for the emails already, and of course for the constant support that you give to this group. Please continue to pray for the kids in their service to God as they spread the good news in a place that really needs it. Peace
